TRANSPORTATION - This country blew it! And, this is one of my pet peeves. At one time the USA had over 1 million miles of railroad tracks.

The fact that I cannot take a train from Madison to O'Hare Airport only 120 miles away is absurd!

A lot of things happened to kill efficient transportation in this country.

- The auto, construction, oil and trucking industries did everything they could to kill mass transit.

- The railroads thought that they were in the "railroad" business instead of the "transportation" business and did not embrace air travel. You should be able to take a train from your city to an airport where you would fly Union Pacific or Santa Fe AIRLINES to your destination.
